CJ Dixon feels that solid Oak rims/shells produces the best tonal qualities compared to other wood species due to its density and unique grain structure. The flavour that it adds to the acoustics is magical to the ear. In addition to its tonal qualities the cosmetics are a thing of beauty. The lovely grains adds a level of uniqueness with each drum being a one of a kind.
Head/Skin
Medium density goat skin.
The skin used on a bodhran is equally as important as the rim/shell it is mated with. Each skin chosen is the result of very strict qualities that CJ Dixon feels creates the best tonal potential. Skins are processed to CJ Dixon standards.
The result: flexible, well balanced head with an increased tonal range and bass.
Bearing Edges
All bearing edges are non-padded, crisp and uniform.
The result: clean head movement resulting in crisp tonal qualities with maximum acoustical longevity.
Tuning
Finger operated head tensioning/tuning. No tools necessary.
The tuning mechanism is fabricated from solid brass for durability and utilizes a custom made knurled knob stainless bolt that is adjusted using fingers only. In order to use the best knurled knob for this critical application CJ Dixon custom fabricates his own to suit his high standards. The aggressive "no slip" tuning knob really grabs the finger allowing for quick and easy adjustments.
Tipper
One tipper per drum purchase.
